Origin of Dragon Boat Festival
The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, which is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar. It's a festival to commemorate the death of Yuan Qu, he is an upright and honest poet and patriotic politician in acient China. Yuan Qu is said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in a river.
The most important activity of this festival is the Dragon Boat races. It symbolizes people's mourning to Qu Yuan. The meaning nowadays is to demonstrate the virtues of cooperation and teamwork.
Meanwhile, the festival has also been marked by eating Zong Zi(Rice cake), Zong zi is made of glutinous rice stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves. People throw the Zong zi to the River for feeding the fishes, hoping to protect Qu's body not be eaten by fishes.
